Leslie calls Ada's looking for Eddie. Ada tells him that Eddie was feeling ill and was put up at Rita and Norman's for the night; however, Rita awakens to find that Eddie is gone. Ada cuts off a drunken Steven, urging him to go home. They discuss their marriages. Steven jokes that he intends to become a Peeping Tom, spying on Peyton Place residents until he learns the secret of a good marriage. He asks Ada if a man and a woman can live together. She says no, but they can't live apart either. On the eve of his marriage to Adrienne, Martin has a bachelor's supper brought to him on a tray by Lee. Martin admits that he has to marry Adrienne because some crimes can't be punished any other way. He gives Lee an expensive watch intended for Rodney, adding that unlike his grandson, Lee's humble origins have made him a man. Lee is touched and promises that anyone who wants to hurt Martin will have to go through him. Betty arrives at the mansion and finds Adrienne sipping brandy in the dark. They
